This is an intensive course that ties together the skills and knowledge students develop through both English and Media studies, offering students a unique opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s most innovative and expert storytellers. Through a mix of interactive lessons and guest speaker sessions, students will dive into the art of storytelling across a variety of media forms. The course will culminate in students developing their own idea, allowing them to apply what they’ve learned to create something meaningful and unique.
What students will learn:
- The Art of Storytelling: At the heart of any great book, film, or game is a captivating story. Students will learn about narrative structure, character development, and world-building. From crafting compelling plots to developing authentic characters, this course will cover everything needed to build an engaging story from the ground up.
- Exploring Different Media: Storytelling takes many forms beyond just written words. Students will explore how stories are told through film, audio, digital media, and even video games.
- Creating Your Own Project: The highlight of the course is the opportunity for students to develop their own creative project. Whether it’s writing a short story, designing a comic strip, creating a podcast episode, or brainstorming a game, students will work step-by-step to bring their ideas to life, gaining valuable feedback and support from peers and mentors along the way.
This course is open to current Haileybury students and non-Haileybury students.
