The Senior School program is designed to ensure that each student has the best possible preparation and opportunity to move into the tertiary pathway of their choice, or to any other appropriate pathway. Spreading their VCE program over three years allows our Senior School students to manage their workload and balance their learning with other passions and interests. The Senior School curriculum
Senior School subjects align with the Australian Curriculum and the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). In Pre-Senior, Year 9 students engage in a program designed specifically to meet the developmental needs of adolescent students, assisting them to gain confidence and self-esteem as well as a degree of self-discipline and self-management.
Senior School students begin their three-year VCE program in Year 10. They are able to design a program that best meets their needs and interests.
Year 9 (Pre-Senior)
The Pre-Senior program offers a comprehensive curriculum with a strong academic focus built around English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and at least one Language. Students also have an opportunity to be involved in the Arts, Digital Technologies, Entrepreneurship or Health & Physical Education. These disciplines provide the foundation for Year 10 and the VCE.
Year 10
Year 10 students undertake five subjects with the ability to opt-into additional subjects if they wish (at an additional cost). One or two of these are at VCE Units 1 and 2 level, although some students may undertake three VCE units if deemed appropriate to do so. Haileybury Pangea works with each student and their family to determine the best program for a student's individual need.
Year 11
Students usually undertake six subjects:
- Four or five subjects at VCE Units 1 and 2 level, including an English study.
- One or two subjects at VCE Units 3 and 4 level.
Students have a large selection of subjects to choose from and will be supported by their teachers and Haileybury Pangea staff to design the program which meets their desired outcomes based on their individual circumstances.
Year 12
Final year students usually undertake four or five subjects at VCE Units 3 and 4 level, including an English study.

Providing more time for academic programs
We frontload the year with students completing self-paced tasks over the summer break, giving them more time to complete each year’s academic program. This is especially important for Year 12, where traditionally students work through a large program in a shortened academic year.
