The focus of the course is on developing critical skills in designing scientific investigations, conducting experiments, and writing detailed scientific reports—essential foundations for budding young scientists. Through fun, engaging, and thought-provoking activities, students will not only learn scientific concepts but also apply them in practical and meaningful ways.
What students will learn:
- How to Design an Experiment: Students will discover the key components of a well-constructed scientific investigation. They will learn how to ask testable questions, form hypotheses, identify variables, and design a step-by-step plan for carrying out their experiments.
- Conducting Safe and Controlled Experiments: Safety is a priority at Haileybury Pangea, and students will be introduced to best practices in a lab-like setting. Through virtual tools and at-home experiments, participants will be guided through the process of gathering data, making observations, and analyzing results with precision.
- Writing Scientific Reports: The ability to clearly communicate scientific findings is essential. Students will be taught how to structure a scientific report, present their data visually (using charts, tables, and graphs), and explain their results in writing. By the end of the course, they will have developed the confidence to present their work with clarity and professionalism.
