Years 3–4

The Middle Primary Skill Builder Numeracy Course focuses on core numeracy skills using Haileybury’s Explicit Instruction model of teaching and learning. Students will engage in daily Warmups to consolidate taught numeracy concepts and develop automaticity of core skills and number facts.

Numeracy lessons will be structured using the I Do, We Do, You Do explicit instruction framework, incorporating teacher modelling of skills, concepts and self-talk, teacher-led guided practice and independent practice.

Students will be taught explicit strategies and processes for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and measurement concepts, including perimeter and area. These skills and concepts will be applied to solve a range of real-life problems.

Skills covered include:
  • Place value
  • Building automaticity of number facts
  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division processes
  • Measurement concepts including perimeter and area
  • Developing pictorial (visual) representations to support understanding
  • Problem solving and application to real life examples.

Years 5–6

The Upper Primary Skill Builder Numeracy Course focuses on core numeracy skills including whole numbers, fractions, decimals and Algebra.

These skills will then be further developed in sessions covering Measurement, Geometry, Statistics and Probability. Students will work through a range of problems related to these topics, then apply this knowledge to problem solving situations.

Years 7–8

The Lower Secondary Skill Builder Numeracy Course focuses on core numeracy skills including integers, fractions, decimals and Algebra.

These skills will then be further developed in sessions covering Measurement, Geometry, Statistics and Probability. Students will work through a range of problems related to these topics, then apply this knowledge to problem solving situations.
