Mr Scott attended Balwyn High School until Year 11 and then completed Year 12 at Mt Albert Grammar in Auckland. He represented both Australia and New Zealand at underage cricket. Mr Scott completed a degree in Political Science from Auckland University whilst also working as a journalist for the New Zealand Herald and playing first class cricket for Auckland.

He joined Haileybury in 2002, was Head of Senior School between 2005 and 2007, and was appointed Principal in December of 2007. He is a Director of Haileybury International and is the Chairman of the joint venture company which supports Haileybury Senior School in Tianjin and The Haileybury Elite International School in China.

Mr Scott is one of Australia’s most highly regarded education leaders. He is on the Board of the Australian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and the Board of the International Education Association of Australia. He is an Expert Member on the Federal International Education Council and is on the Victorian Government’s International Education Expert Advisory Council. In 2021 he has been on the panel of four conducting a review of Initial Teacher Education in Australia for the Federal Government.

Mr Scott was awarded the Australian Principal of Year at the 2019 Australian Education Awards.
